Partner Agencies (the Multi-disciplinary Team at Heaton )
The vast majority of our students need input from a team of professionals.
The Heaton multi-disciplinary team consists of teachers, teaching assistants, individual support workers and the school support staff.
We have a school nurse (emma Beswick) on site each day based in the nurses office at the centre of school to support with medical needs. In addition, there is an expanded team of therapists based on site each week including speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, music therapists and Sensory Support Teachers. The support of an Educational Psychologist is available when required.
We work very closely with CAHMS (Formerly known as HYMS), the Children’s Community Disability Learning Team, a Consultant Paediatrician, continence nurse and dietician also liaise with school and parents. Numerous clinics also run in school and wheelchair services can see students in school.
Similar links exist with Social Services, especially the Children with Disability Team, Transition Team and Adult Social care, who we work with constantly to ensure there is an effective team around every young person at Heaton. We have an effective Team Around the School (TAS) that supports children, parents and carers who may require additional support.
We are very proud of the work of the whole team who work with the students at Heaton, this provision is seen in all parts of the school day from assistance with transport and Sensory Circuits at the start of the day right into support at EHCP reviews and support in the home
