Our School Environment

The school benefits from a variety of learning environments across the two sites that are  tailored to the needs of the cohort. These include classrooms (all have hoisting facilities), an immersive learning environment, light rooms, Hydro Therapy Pool, School Hall, Cookery Room, life skills room, adapted bathrooms, break out rooms and safe spaces. We also have access to 2 mini busses to facilitate community visits for all classes.

At the Heaton Site we have a wonderful outdoor environment which includes playground equipment, a trampoline, a swing and a multi-use games area. In addition we have a superb forest school area, a memorial garden, orchard and allotment area. This gives the students lots of opportunities to take part in outdoor education and we are developing our curriculum this year to incorporate aspects of forest schools.

Classrooms are set up as vision friendly spaces with resources facilitate total communication such as time lines and symbol support reflecting the needs of each class.
