I have been a governor at Heaton School since 2007. I worked in Education / Young Peoples Department of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council until my retirement in 2007. I was an Education officer responsible for schools finance. I have previously been a Chair of Governors in a primary school in Stockport. I have a wide and detailed knowledge of education in Stockport as well as knowledge and experience of best financial management practices, internal control and auditing; budget setting and monitoring; school funding and analysing data. I have considerable experience of strategic leadership. I am married with two sons and two grand children who attend a Stockport primary school.

Headteacher I have been Headteacher since September 2018, I was previously the Deputy Headteacher since Jan 2015. My background and training is as a PE Specialist working initially in mainstream PE moving over to an emphasis on students with additional needs through exposure to the School Sports Coordinator role that saw me teach in all Special settings a PRUs in Stockport while based at Heaton School. After this I became the PE lead teacher at Piper Hill Specialist Support School in Manchester before securing the Deputy Head position here at this amazing school. My experience in a number of school settings enables me to bring a fresh approach to an already outstanding school at an exciting time in the development of Heaton School. Out of school I enjoy spending time with my wife and 2 sons. I’m a real sports enthusiast and enjoy, running, playing and coaching Hockey, coaching Football at Stockport County Colts and watching Manchester City F.C.

I have been a governor at Heaton School since 2007. I am a local Councillor for Heatons North and have strong links with the local community and the local council. Over the last 30+ years I have served as a governor at 5 schools in 3 education authorities. I have extensive experience of looked after children, serving on Stockport Council’s corporate parenting working party which oversees how the council supports children and young people in public care. I am also a member of the fostering committee which approves and monitors foster carers and the quality of the fostering relationship. I used to lead a behaviour and education support team for a cluster of 5 Manchester schools. I have extensive knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, looked after children and post school opportunities and provision. I live locally in the Heatons and have 7 grown up children.

Parent Governor Term of office ends 31st August 2025 Health and Safety Governor Member of Resources Committee Full voting rights I am a retired registered general nurse with midwifery, occupational health and safety training. I spent the first years of my career in hospital settings and then the latter as an Occupational Health Adviser for the BBC covering the North Of England. I was part of the Health and Safety Committee and managed my own department including recruitment and budgeting. I have subsequently worked as an independent adviser for various organisations. I bring to the governing body my skills and experience in Health and Safety, recruitment, budget setting and monitoring and post school opportunities and provision. I am married to a local GP and we have 4 children and three grandchildren between us.

Elected Staff Governor Term of Office ends 12th February 2024 Member of Resources Committee Full voting rights I have been a teacher at Heaton School since 2004, and have worked with children and adults with learning physical impairments since 1999. I have worked as a science teacher at Kingsway School before Heaton School and I am currently the computing co-ordinator at the school. I have been a committee member of my local residents’ association for a number of years, and have had various responsibilities within school ordering and overseeing technology installations. I have completed a middle management training course and had lots of opportunities over the years at Heaton School to develop my skills in leading and working as part of a teams. I bring to the governing body my skills and experience in special educational needs; procurement and facilities management; managing complex needs; pupil voice and behaviour management. I am a keen Manchester United fan, and also play the tuba in local amateur concert bands and orchestras.
