WB 31st October
Date: 4th Nov 2022 @ 4:18pm
Firstly, welcome back everyone to the second half of our autumn term. We hope and trust you had a lovely week off school!
On Monday we welcomed Mel, our new Family Liaison worker to the team. Mel is well known to the school already as she has been working as a midday assistant at Heaton for many years! We are excited that she is now in this role...
Mel writes...
I'm Mel and I am the new Family Liaison Assistant at Heaton School. Over the coming months, I will initiate the new Family Hub. A place within school for you (our families) to turn to when help, advice and friendship is needed. The hub is a calm, relaxing and safe space to enable you to feel at ease. It's also a place for informal chats and to feel listened to. I am here to support your family the best I can. Parenting isn’t an easy job and at times it can be challenging. I can’t promise to have all the answers but will aim to support you to find a solution to issues you may be facing. When life is busy I can be flexible in meeting arrangements. If you can’t get to our family hub, I’ll bring the hub to you and can visit your house or arrange to meet you at a time and place that is suitable for you. I work Monday to Friday and you can conrtact me via the school office, email or class dojo.
We are always very grateful to organisations who help to generate extra funds.Stockport Hydro have been extremely influential in enabling us to develop our forest school area. Last weekend they invited recipients of their community environmental fund for a visit to the generator. Kyle (our Forest school lead teacher) went along. We want to thank them for their help over the years - it is gratefully appreciated and we look forward to continue working closely with them in the future.
Students at Heaton learn so much from accessing the community as part of their learning. This week Yasmin's group visited the Cafe at St Paul's church.
We also encourage students to develop their independence and lifeskills whilst at school. This week Cheadle campus students have been busy with different everyday tasks including hoovering, sweeping and taking the food boxes out for collection!! I wondered why the mini bus was so spotless this week!!
