Welcome back everyone to the second half of our autumn term! We hope you had a great half term break.
Planetarium visit
This week the Pre Formal pathway had an exciting visit from a mobile planetarium. With funds achieved by Kyle, our students were able to experience and explore the planets and constellations in a totally immersive environment. Our guide Carys was full of wonderful stories about the different myths and legends linked to the stars. The experience then moved towards a more light show element. This was perfect for our students who have visual impairments with a strong contrast being shown between the black dome and the amazing movement of bright colours that was all encompassing.
Staff commented on how the planetarium was totally immersive, with the sights, sounds and atmosphere really sparking lots of imagination. Many of our students showed their interest and awe with total engagement, staring in wonder and smiling throughout the whole session.
Diwali
As part of the 'World around us' curriculum different groups have been learning all about diwali this week.

Heaton School does Children in Need!
On Friday 15th November we are celebrating BBC’s Children in Need. This charity has a long history of supporting many causes that we have all had experiences with. Children’s charities and events that Children in need supports include Signpost Stockport for Young Carers, The Autistic Society Greater Manchester, and Seashell Trust's weekend clubs.
The theme this year is ‘To challenge yourself to make life lighter’. Here, at Heaton School, we are completing a number of challenges throughout the school day. We will be holding a none uniform/ fancy dress day for staff and students. We have been challenged to a bake sale for staff, students, friends and families to donate cakes before joining us for a coffee morning and bake sale. This will be from 9:30am at Heaton main site on Friday 15th November. In the afternoon, we will be having a dance challenge with classes taking part in a funky dance off.
We can't wait to see what moves everyone throws!
And finally...
Thanks to everyone who donated to this years food bank collection. Students from Lucy's class went this week to the foodbank depot in Hazel Grove to take your contributions.
