At Heaton school students utilise a range of different interventions and strategies to support their learning. Attention Autism is one of these strategies.
Attention Autism is a learning approach created by speech and language therapist Gina Davies. It aims to develop natural and spontaneous communication skills in Autistic children through the use of visually based and highly motivating activities. This approach aims to provide children with a learning experience that they want to communicate about. All teachers at Heaton school are trained in this approach. Here is a picture of an attention autism activity taking place in SNJ's class this week:
On Tuesday some 3HC students went to Heaton Moor Park to practice some tennis skills on the local tennis courts. All students involved enjoyed this experience, gained exercise and were able to practice their road safety skills walking to the park.
