Heaton news - WB 20th Jan

Throughout this year we are continuing to develop our pathway curriculum. Community access plays a significant part throughout all our pathways. Within the Semi formal pathway they have started implementation of our travel training and community visits scheme of work. Students are learning to follow sequential steps when accessing public transport. This week Kyles class put their newly acquired skills to good practice by taking a train to Stockport. When accessing the community students are able to practice their road awareness and safety skills at the same time.

Each week, our Post-16 students take part in community outings. Angie’s class on Thursdays and Ernie’s on Fridays. These experiences are designed to develop independence, travel skills, communication, and financial awareness, as students choose and purchase their own snacks while engaging in physical activity. In Ernie’s class, they introduced an additional emotion to the Green Zone..safe!!!..which has quickly become a popular choice. Hearing students express that they feel safe in the community is so important for building confidence moving into adulthood.

Elles class have made a rather damp trip to Aldi this week Everyone chose one item for a snack and it was a great opportunity for practising our independent shopping skills. Harry did a fabulous job loading the conveyor belt and Poppy was excellent at packing the shopping bags.
