One of the four value words of Heaton school is celebrate!

This week we celebrate the fact that some of our students have been part of Stockport's Culture week. Today (Friday) a number of students from different classes attended the opening to the lift installation that incorporates music that has been recorded and sampled working within their omni music sessions. We feel fortunate to be part of such a project and are grateful to Omni music for exhibiting our students work as part of their brands relaunch.

Also this week we celebrate the partnership work that takes place throughout the school year. On Monday we had the pleasure of welcoming our neighbours over from St Thomas for an inclusive Forest school session. Their students naturally provide social play opportunities to enhance the forest school session for our young people. Alongside the lovely interactions we made seed bombs together and launched them into our field in preparation for summer.

Cheadle students have been given a fantastic opportunity to do some work experience at Chorlton Park which started off with great enthusiasm this week. This exciting long term venture is being supported by Friends of Chorlton Park and is a great opportunity for students to learn some practical gardening and maintenance skills.  Two volunteers joined the students on Thursday to help get them started in the orchard digging up weeds and mulching to help protect the plants. The students worked really hard and are already looking forward to next week!

And finally, we celebrate the new skills that our teachers are developing to further enhance the learning that takes place within school, especially to develop students reading. skills. On Monday evening staff were trained in the theory and practice in a new phonics programme specially designed for SEND learners. We have been thrilled to be working in partnership with Ann Sullivan. For many years Ann has developed ways to teach children with SEND how to read and going forward we will be using this programme.
