Heaton news - WB 12th June

Welcome back everyone! I trust that everyone had a great half term break.
Firstly, a big thankyou to all parents/carers for your understanding on Monday. Thanks to the support given by the authority the matter with the school roof (Heaton site) was able to be resolved within a timely manner and we were very grateful to Matt and team for ensuring that the school was back up and running for Tuesday.
Science workshops
This week saw the start of Lightyear foundation providing fantastic science workshops for our science lessons in ks3 and ks4. our students really engaged with the opportunities and we are hoping to take advantage of their immersive sensory science experience for our sensory learners in the near future.
Balloon launch
We are pleased to announce that after many weeks in waiting Chelsea (our very own Astronaut!) went into space today. A group of students went to Redwood Special school in Rochdale to witness this momentous occasion. In the meanwhile students back at mission control (Aka - the school hall) witnessed the launch via a video link. We await confirmation of (hopefully) a safe landing and also look forward to sharing Chelsea's findings of her experience in the coming days. Thanks to Kyle and volunteers from Heaton Men in Sheds for making this amazing event happen and for bringing science to life!

Thursday 29th June 2-6pm - Sam, Amalia, Colin, Angie, Ruth/Nicola
