Spotlight  on Post 16 at Heaton School.

Within the post 16 department at Heaton School across both campuses, our aim is to support our students to prepare for the move into adulthood. This involves empowering our students wtih the communication, skills and tools to do this as independently and confidently as is possible, playing an active role in their learning and decisions about their future. We look at functional literacy and numeracy through topics such a Work Related Learning and Life Skills and where possible access the local community through meaningful and fun activities.

This week the students in 5CH have been enjoying their time back in school, while working towards their iep targets, developing their communication skills and working with others: including being physically active during their PE sessions, exploring musical instruments during omnimusic sessions, enjoying the food prepared in food technology sessions or just being with their friends.

This week, 5CL have been working on team building activities as an introduction to their Team Project module in Work Related Learning. Elsewhere they had fun getting competitive playing dodgeball in PE, learning good hand hygiene and its importance in Life Skills and exploring Forest School, helping set the fire  - much needed in this cold weather. In the picture you can see Marcus who did a fantastic job picking up the kindling with great focus and concentration.

Thank you!!!
A huge thankyou to Gail and Geoff at Fresh for their generous donation of Morrisons vouchers so school could replenish the students snack box.

Well done!
Well done to Ernesto, our post 16 Cheadle campus teacher, who completed the Great North Run last weekend, for the Smile for Life Children's Charity in a incredible 2 hours and 34 minutes. We are so proud of you Ernesto!

Have a lovely weekend everyone - don't swap the summer/winter wardrobes over just yet - I see sun and warmth may be for forecast for next week!
