Happy new year everyone!! We've had a great start to 2023...

Reading at Heaton school

Over the past few months we have been reviewing the different ways we encourage reading throughout school. Mary Osborne once said 'Reading is the passport to adventures'. Here at Heaton reading takes many forms for different students and we recognise that development in reading is key to their adventure that is life! For some student, reading is about learning to read through group/individual reading sessions, and for other's it's about reading into signs and symbols in and around school/ the wider community and/or using visual cues as a prompt to respond to a certain way. Here are a few great examples of reading taking place throughout school.....

Goodbyes and new arrivals!

Today we said goodbye to Brydie who is going on maternity leave. We wish Brydie every happiness in the coming weeks as she becomes a mum for a second time! Don't worry though - she will be back!! We are delighted (in the meanwhile) that Roisin will be covering Brydie's class from now till the end of the summer term.

We also welcome Stella. As a result of a few class changes at the end of last term, Stella is teaching 2 days a week and is working with Nicola and Ruth's class. Stella has much experience that she can bring to the school having worked at Valley school in the past. We are excited to have her on board!

Family Liaison

A family liaison survey will be sent out next week on 'Teachers to parents'. We would really value your views/opinions on what support you (as parents) would like to receive. In completing this survey it will help us to plan ahead for the future.

Friends of Heaton

We are going to be relaunching 'Friends of Heaton'. If there are any parents who would like to get involved with planning family events, raising money for the school etc we would love to hear from you. Please register your interest through contacting Jonno or Andy by email or on the school phone - we'd love to discuss our vision and thoughts!

We hope everyone has a great weekend!
