Heaton news - WB 2nd Mar

Date: 6th Mar 2026 @ 2:42pm

One of our ethos words is celebration. At Heaton school we celebrate  diversity. Within the school we have a diverse student and staff team from different backgrounds, religions and cultures. This is something that we are proud of and want our students to know and understand about peoples beliefs and values.

This week, pupils across the school celebrated the Hindu festival of Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours. They designed and painted their own colourful Holi T-shirts, created vibrant greeting cards, and took part in a variety of colourful sensory play activities.

Reading is an essential part of our students education and we are excited to share that we have a new school mobile library that is started to be utilised throughout school. A lunchtime reading club is about to be launched. Every class have dedicated time in their school day for reading to take place. This can take the form of individual reading, group reads or sensory stories. On Thursday (5th March) we celebrated World Book Day. Students from all pathways accessed an immersive library experience in the Drama studio. We had lots of our brand new books on offer for students to choose from and share with their staff and peers. We had puppets and dress up opportunities and it was a delight to see such lovely engagement from all of our amazing students. Students at our Post 16 Cheadle site shared their favourites books and stories in a World Book Day show and tell. Students loved reading their favourite books to their classmates!

Comic Relief / Red Nose Day - Friday 20th March

On Friday 20th March we are raising money for comic relief. To mark this day we are asking for donations to be sent into school. Your child may come into school wearing something silly or red, however this is optional and we fully accept that some students find the change in dress routine difficult. Classes will be doing different throughout the day on the 'silly for money' theme so we look forward to sharing what classes have been up to next week!

I hope you have a great weekend!
