Another busy week to report at Heaton School!

Post 16

At our Cheadle college campus this week students have been working on how to work as a team through participating in team building exercises. These skills will lead to car washing as a team later in the term.
Groups have also been out to Woodbank Park cafe, where the students used their communication skills to order what they liked from the cafe and then we worked on money recognition to pay for their items. They have also been practicing their lifeskills through shopping for items, tcooking a meal and travel training.

Semi Formal pathway

Kyle and Beths class have been taking part in narrative sessions. This term they have been reading Fantastic Beasts and some of the students have been engaging really well and are starting to be able to respond to the call and response style of story telling. Some are starting to recall some of the characters and beasts. Some students were able to create a “Niffler” which is one of the creatures, from memory of its characteristics.

Pre Formal pathway

The Preformal curriculum is topic led and this term classes have been exploring the theme 'Past and Present'. Here are some pictures of students getting creative with cave paintings, recreating a famous cave painting found in Argentina, Cuevas De Las Manos (cave of hands).

Informal pathway

Ahead of International Space Week next week, Elle’s class took a trip to the spectacular Jodrell Bank. From listening to the sound of the Big Bang, to playing with plasma, they really did do it all! Some of their favourite activities included experimenting with inclines outside and taking a digital tour through the solar system in the Space Dome. They were even lucky enough to see the ginormous Lovell Radio Telescope rotating and tilting!
