Heaton news - WB 11th May

At Heaton School we work closely with the Stockport Sensory Support team to help support and equip students with a visual impairment. One initiative our staff have launched this term is the VI disco which takes place every week on a Friday afternoon. This is a great opportunity for not only some brilliant activities all focussing on differing positive looking skills that are practised with the students in a fun way. It is also a great session where our VI (Visual impairment) champions, Gill, Amy, Gee and Sue, pass on all their learned knowledge to others throughout school. We are already seeing lots of skills being used beyond this structured, designated session and learnt skills are being utlised throughout the curriculum.

On the theme of VI - Helen's class have been practicing their visual skills as part of their sensory stories this week.

Cheadle writes..
Our students over at the Cheadle campus have been accessing Work related learning carrying out a variety of different tasks working with Friends of Chorlton Park. This is a great partnership where many students have gained valuable experience which has set them up for further work opportunities since they have left the school. We continue to develop links with other organisations and look forward to sharing these developments in the future!

We hope you all have a great weekend!
