Heaton News - WB 11th July

Date: 15th Jul 2022 @ 10:01am

I can't quite believe we are approaching the end of term already with only 1 week left. It's been busy busy all round!!

Some students were treated to an amazing art experience last week courtesy of Pam from Sensory Support Service and Nicki from Artventure. The multi-sensory session allowed students to experience Art in a creative way.

We have started an exciting partnership with a local Heaton Moor charitable group this week.  Men in sheds is a voluntary organisation which brings together isolated men to work towards a common goal of helping community projects.  They hope to initially help us develop our outdoor provision for forest schools and have many other creative ideas as to how they may help over the coming years!

Whilst Covid and lockdown has meant alot of changes and disruption in schools in general, exciting opportunities have also arisen in our school as a result. An example of this is where some the post 16 classes have been doing a weekly virtual music session. This has allowed students who have been absent from school, and those who are now at the Cheadle Heath site, to keep links with their friends and join with students at the main Heaton site  Students have enjoyed singing, signing and dancing together. Whilst It is sad that we will no longer be doing these sessions from September many happy memories and experiences have formed as a result of these sessions over the past year.

We continually strive towards developing our students independence. Over the past few months Kyle's class have been travel training through travelling regularly on the train. All the class have done so well but three students in particular have started to use the ticket machine independently. Well done to all of Kyle's class!

Arrangements for leavers - We plan to have a leavers assembly on Friday 22nd July at the Heaton site. Unfortunately we are unable to invite parents this year, however we will ensure that we share plenty of photo's in next weeks blog.

You will not have been able to escape the news that a heatwave is descending on our country next week, especially on Monday and Tuesday. Please be assured that we are following guidance provided by the authority to are ensure that plans are in place to ensure that students are kept safe (and cool) during this time. On these days please can you send your child into school with appropriate clothing, a water bottle and having sun cream applied before coming to school would be preferable.

And finally, a reminder that the end of the academic year is approaching. The last day of term will be Monday 25th July.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
